The sound I've been looking for was finally "in hand". This "blackie" sounds amazing even when mildly cupped, but when you get a good seal, it "honks" like a wounded goose. One of the most noticeable differences from what I've been using was the response, "jumpin' on" and "biting off" notes. It was really fun finding new sounds and tones to tease the audience with. Now I've really gotta work on my chops, just to keep up with this mic. Thanks Chuck, for helping me with my knowledge of mic elements and getting me tuned in with this beast. All I've got to say is HOLY CROW!!!! I now know what a GREAT harp mic should sound like! The response throughout the frequency range in awesome. BIG lows, cutting mids, and sweet highs. This was definitely some of the best money I've spent on gear ever. I'm definitely going to save up some cash and send you another mic to get the same exact treatment. Another thing that you were right on the money about is feedback resistance with the C.R. I can crank the volume pretty good with my Meteor before the C.R. will give me trouble. To get to the same volume with either of my C.M.s I have to use my Kinder AFB. I like this a lot, because to my ears the Kinder pedal colors the tone a little. I prefer the tone of the amp/mic without the pedal. Thank you for the job well done. Every thing said about tone and communication is satisfyingly true, when i gig other harpers ask and want to blow this one (of three cm/cr bullets).Crowd can easily hear the diff under live circumstances when played together. The deal is inside the case where the wiring, element and silver solder (does make a difference) etc is matched by no one. When i got the mic back i first played it thru a 1954 jensen p 12q out of the cab and it was the equal of my old top gun 440sl white cm 99b86 but once the speaker was in the cab and exercised the rebuilt blk cr from Mr. Gurney, it ruled the day. Chuck is the best, even makes me want to redo anything i did (except silver solder which is all i have). Thank you again and after i do some $ jobs i'll be looking for more . It looks magnificant. The shaved fin still leaves my Turner with that art deco look I love but now it fits comfortably in my hands. I just played it at band practice. Its great!! really heavy tone and cosmetically beautiful (the red mesh is very nice)!! The VC works nice and smooth and holds volume at low increments!! Great! I have some good older Controlled Reluctance elements that work very nicely and have good tone....but I always wondered about these elements that you offered and there is a noticeable difference in tone and presence!! and "thats at low volume" so I am sure at a respectable volume the difference magnifies itself like the Richter scale for earthquakes! Thanks a lot Chuck. The vintage style cord is excellent also! You know....what you say about throwing your money away on these other unknown elements is true!! Might as well save it up and get something you know will be checked out fully...and that has a pedigree and support!!! You are great!! I plugged the thing in, and busted out my Hohner Blues MS harp in b-flat. After adjusting a few settings, I was able to get the mic turned all the way up. I played a short little riff, and the tone was absolutely amazing. A sweet crunch, and a slight, natural hint of reverb. It was responsive to my playing as well, and gave me that down and dirty tone when tightly cupped. My wife even commented that I sounded like some of the blues stuff I have been listening to! I cannot thank you enough for hooking me up with your custom work. I am glad I was able to get my mic done right the first time. I would recommend your work without hesitation.
